Apple Picking and Land Conservation in Quechee, Vermont
Terry Dorman knows a thing or two about apples so when Vermont fruit and vegetable growers suffered a widespread and severe spring freeze in in late May of this year, his outlook for the fall crop was uncertain.
No farm escaped, although the impact was less devastating on some than others, but a wet summer featuring historic rainfall made growing conditions even tougher. Despite all that, according to Terry, Whitman Brook’s unique hillside location and beneficial airflow has resulted in a good crop for fall picking with 140 varieties.
Whitman Brook: An Apple Orchard and the Nature of Time is a recently released, award-winning feature film about the orchard by Ben Silberfarb who has captured something special in his film. View at the trailer and find information on where you can see the whole feature film through the links on the Whitman Brook website.
Whitman Brook Orchard is now open for pick-your-own apples with early varieties ready now. Visit every weekend through early November: Sat | 11am – 4pm and Sun | 10am – 3pm. Learn more here.
