Living in Quechee, Vermont

Hot air balloons over the Ottauquechee River in Quechee Vermont

With Father’s Day and the annual Quechee Balloon Festival set to kick off on Friday June 14th, along with the first two reservations for new construction on the Mountain Stream Quechee project, Higgerson & Co. felt it was the right time for a focus on Quechee and spotlight on the blog.

The hamlet of Quechee, Vermont was established in the 1760s, and is one of five unincorporated villages in the town of Hartford, Vermont. Equidistant from Hanover, NH, home to Dartmouth College and Woodstock, VT, Quechee is blessed with every conceivable recreational and lifestyle amenity, making it a unique gateway to Vermont adventures. The hamlet is also host to the Quechee Lakes Landowners Association (QLLA), a 5500-acre residential community, founded in the late 1960s, along with the popular Quechee Club, and the club’s amenities which include two championship golf courses, the Quechee Ski area and numerous additional recreational amenities.

The Quechee Lakes Landowners Association was one of the first of its size to fall under the jurisdiction of Vermont’s Land Use Act 250 Law. Consequently, the community is meticulously planned, harmonizing with its natural surroundings, which include the Ottauquechee River Valley, hillsides, as well as preserved open meadows, and woodlands. Today, the Quechee Lakes Resort is among New England’s premier destinations for both seasonal and year-round residents. Quechee is also famous for its picturesque, covered bridge and as the home of Simon Pearce Glassblowing and Restaurant.

Situated on the Ottauquechee River, Quechee Gorge, often referred to as “Vermont’s Little Grand Canyon,” is one of New England’s most renowned natural attractions bringing over 200,000 annual visitors who come for the scenic views, the nearby Vermont Institute of Natural Science, and activities such as fishing and canoeing on the river, hiking the trails in summer and fall, and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter.

Whether it is serendipitously catching a twilight balloon launch over the river or a romantic dinner above the mill falls, 18 holes on the Lakeland Course or an hour or two of skiing some freshly fallen snow, a quick trip to White River for some theatre or a jaunt to Woodstock for some shopping, Quechee, Vermont has it all.

Real estate opportunities in Quechee include homes, condos, and land for sale, both within the QLLA development and beyond. Higgerson & Co. is currently representing an exciting new opportunity for homebuyers, Mountain Stream Quechee. For more information on the project and current availability in Phase One click here.
