Barnard is where Higgerson & Company first planted it roots in Vermont in 1978 and the town has always felt like home – a funky, real mix that offers a little something for everyone.
A big something that brings the community together every summer is Feast & Field. Every Thursday night at Fable Farm the allure of live music and great food and drink is celebrated in the orchards with local talent presented by BarnArts, and hyper-local, freshly prepared food that is grown, raised, and harvested on the same land.
The entity that hosts Feast & Field is called the Feast & Field Collective; a group of three local farms that have joined forces in an attempt to sustain an agricultural-rural economy and culture. Fable Farm turns the fruit they grow into living wines and vinegars, Kiss The Cow Farm turns their milk into ice cream, and Eastman Farm’s beef and pork, together with Fable Farm’s vegetables, are the staple ingredients for the Feast & Field dinner offerings.
These three farms are also working cooperatively to steward the historic farms of Barnard’s idyllic Broad Brook Basin, keeping the land open and productive for generations to come. The collective is committed to real organic, regenerative agricultural practices with an emphasis on maintaining intimacy between people and the land. The intention is to use their farming enterprises as a means to reconnect to the rhythms of Nature, not only for themselves and their families, but for the community at large.
Fable Farm is located at 1525 Royalton Turnpike in Barnard, Vermont; tickets and a full schedule can be found here.
