There are endless activities to enjoy during fall weekends in the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire. Following are some of our favorites for all ages, and as a bonus, you’re likely to take in the spectacular northern New England foliage while out and about this season.
What is ‘The Hunt’ you ask? Only the very best kind of scavenger hunt because it involves cheese! Organized by the Vermont Cheese Council, this epic activity will have you exploring Vermont’s outdoor environment, history, and its cheeses. The state is divided into 6 regions with 6 different hunts; you can choose to do just Woodstock, the Upper Valley, and Southeastern VT, but why would you because we are talking about cheese! Riverview Farm in Plainfield, NH is a family-run farm with 1600 apple trees growing several different varieties including Macoun, Empire, Snow Sweet, and, a personal favorite, Honeycrisp. Right now you can also get pumpkins, homemade cider, and tour the corn maze. The orchards are an easy walk from the parking area, but one can also drive to them to facilitate access for those with limited mobility. And do not leave with sampling a doughnut if they are on offer!
There is something for everyone at this weekend-long event, October 8th and 9th, at Billings Farm and Museum in Woodstock. Take a tractor ride, sample spiced cider, try your hand at pumpkin bowling, and enjoy a barn dance with live music. There is also a children’s story time and demonstrations in the Farm kitchen.
